Joy Church: Lobby AV, Kids Audio and Sanctuary Acoustic Treatment
After completing an LED wall and video-system upgrade, Joy Church in Medford, Oregon brought Qohr back to improve several other areas of the campus.
The project included a lobby that could support overflow and live worship, better audio for a difficult kids room, video distribution to ministry spaces, and acoustic treatment for the sanctuary. Each area had different needs, but the systems still needed to feel connected and remain practical for volunteers.
A Flexible AV System for the Church Lobby
The lobby needed to serve several purposes. It functions as an overflow area during services, a gathering space throughout the week, and an environment where the worship team can occasionally lead music.
Symetrix DSP and Touchscreen Control
A Symetrix digital signal processor manages the lobby audio system. A glass touchscreen gives staff and volunteers a clear control surface for common adjustments without requiring access to the full system configuration.
RCF Loudspeakers and Campus Video Distribution
RCF loudspeakers provide sound throughout the lobby, while new displays receive video from the sanctuary over SDI. The distribution system allows overflow guests and families outside the auditorium to remain connected to the service.
A new display in the nursing mothers' room extends the same service feed to parents who need to step out of the sanctuary.
Local Inputs for Worship and Events
A Symetrix wall input plate allows the team to connect microphones, an acoustic guitar, or an HDMI source directly in the lobby. The room can therefore support live worship, meetings, and special events without building a temporary system every time.
Kids Room Audio in a Difficult Space
The kids room has a low ceiling, which can make loudspeaker placement and even coverage difficult. Compact RCF loudspeakers were positioned to distribute sound more consistently without overpowering the room.
A subwoofer supports music and program content, while new Shure wireless microphones give leaders dependable voice reinforcement. An Allen & Heath CQ-18T mixer provides touchscreen control in a format that is approachable for rotating kids-ministry leaders.
Sanctuary Acoustic Treatment With a Self-Install Plan
Joy Church wanted to reduce sanctuary reflections and improve clarity while protecting the project budget. Qohr designed the acoustic-panel layout and provided a placement schematic using Primacoustic treatment.
The church's team then installed the panels themselves while Qohr was on site. This approach allowed the church to invest in a properly planned treatment layout while reducing installation labor.
The Result
Joy Church now has a lobby that supports overflow, live worship, and events; a kids room with clearer and more consistent audio; video in the spaces where parents and guests need it; and a sanctuary with better-controlled acoustics.
The project also demonstrates how a campus can be improved in focused phases without losing sight of the complete system.
